I actually voted this past Saturday. My BF had driven down the night before and as he kissed me good night, he asked what we were going to do the next day. I told him,
'Vote!' which he thought was cool. ;) He couldn't vote himself as he doesn't live in NC, but he told me he'd drive me over there and pick me up afterwards.
So we get there around 7:00 and I'm thinking, oh good, I'll be first. Well colour me shocked when we pull up and there are almost 20 people in line already! It was a three-hour wait as the doors opened at 10:00 AM. D had to leave to go meet his brothers but I had a flask of hot tea and a book as well as a fold-up chair, so I was comfy, if a bit chilled.
Once the doors opened at 10:00 AM, it was zip right in, vote, and zip right back out. The only problem I had was the precinct worker asking to see a photo ID as she didn't believe a person with a British accent could vote. However I showed her my voter's card and my driver's license so it was all verified.
I did miss the camaraderie of voting on Election Day and chatting with other voters in line but I did it Saturday, and I was able to cover for those of us on my work team who needed to leave to vote. So it was all cool in the end. :)
However I think next time, I shall vote by absentee ballot. No lines that way.
